The Power of The Smile
Do you know how powerful a smile is and how it can immediately change the way we feel?
When I am coaching with my clients and when we are doing any type of intervention we always get into a specific state, like happiness, for example, so we can lead the client into the same state…
The coach gets into state first to make it easier for the client to get into the same state especially if it’s a state they are not use too…
For the intervention to be effective the client wants to be in a congruent state…
The Different states we get into are like..
⁃ Happiness…
⁃ Joyful…
⁃ Passionate…
⁃ Excitement…
⁃ Confident..
⁃ Powerful…
So what does this have to do with the power of a smile…
Each state we go into creates a chemical change in our body almost immediately…
So when we smile our body is communicating to our nervous system that we are happy and that releases all those happy chemicals into our body that makes us feel great…
Listen up…
By just looking at someone and making eye contact and give them a BIG smile and they smile back your have just helped them to feel great even if it’s just for a few seconds…
You may even changed their state if they weren’t happy before they saw your smile…
That’s how powerful a smile can be…
We can change their body chemistry in seconds…
And guess what…
If they smile back, our body chemistry also gets a shot of happy chemicals as well…
Yesterday I was out walking and I saw a man helping a delivery driver pull a trolley from the road to the foot path…
They exchanged a few words and I look at the man and gave him a big smile and he returned to me such a lovely genuine smile it was great, I felt wonderful…
No words were said yet we had a wonderful communication…
Understand this…
We have the power to change another persons state of how they feel with a smile…
I’m always looking to make eye contact with people to change their state through a genuine smile…
Here’s the deal…
The more smiles we give out the more that can come back and flood our bodies with all those happy chemicals…
I find it so empowering and this is one place where I build my energy reserves…
