How To Disagree In A meeting And Keep The Connection…

Imagine your employee comes to your office, knocks on your door and wants to speak with you…

He finally whips up the nerve to walk into your office and says…

“Excuse me, but I like a raise. I really feel like I deserve a raise”…

Now, do you reply, “No, you can’t have a raise”? Never…

That would be like punching him in the face with your words which will immediately tarnish the relationship and break connection…

This type of response will have its own consequences…

Another way to respond and keep the relationship healthy is this….

We say, “Yes John, I appreciate you would like a raise and you really feel like you deserve a raise”…

We repeat back to him his own words so he knows he has been heard and he is still open and receptive in the conversation…

Now whether or not he deserves a raise is another thing…

Then you can inquire further as to why he thinks he deserves a raise

And both have an open discussion and come up with a win/win solution while keeping you connection and relationship intact with your employee…

Even if you know this employee doesn’t deserve a raise we still need to respect his view of the…
